
The Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya (FH UB) and the Korean Law School Association signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at Schubert Hall, Hotel President, Seoul, (5/24/2024). Dr. Aan Eko Widiarto, SH, M.Hum, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya, signed the MoA with Prof. Sang-Kyung Lee, Chairperson of the Korean Law School Association. According to Dr. Aan, the signing of the agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of law between the two countries.
“The main objective is to strengthen cooperation between the Faculties of Law in both countries in terms of collaboration in the fields of research and academics to produce professional law graduates in the future,” said Dr. Aan.

In addition to the signing of the MoA, the event also included an International Symposium discussing the topics of ’15 Years Experience of Law School System in Korea’ and ‘Challenges in Indonesia’s Legal Profession’. Several well-known universities in South Korea that participated in the symposium included Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Law School, Hanyang University School of Law, Ajou University Law School, Yonsei University Law School, and University of Seoul Law School.
Dr. Aan Eko Widiarto was also one of the speakers at the symposium, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in the legal education system in Indonesia.
“The legal education system in Indonesia faces various challenges, such as lack of access to modern resources and the need for curriculum reform that is more in line with global practices. However, this also opens up great opportunities for innovation and international collaboration to improve the quality and relevance of legal education in Indonesia,” said Dr. Aan.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya also took the initiative to strengthen cooperation with legal institutions in South Korea, including the Supreme Court of Korea and the Constitutional Court of Korea. This step aimed at improving joint research for lecturers as well as student sending programs to gain global experience in South Korea.
“The initial step to strengthen cooperation with legal institutions in South Korea, such as the Supreme Court of Korea and the Constitutional Court of Korea, is part of our strategy to improve joint research and provide students with opportunities for global exposure programs,” explained Dr. Aan.

“This collaboration is expected to provide a significant contribution in improving the quality of legal education and professionalism in both countries,” concluded Dr. Aan.
This event not only marks the beginning of a closer cooperative relationship between the two countries, but also represents a step forward as an efforts to create a better legal education system and more competent graduates on both sides. (Rma/FH PR/ OKY/ UBPR/ Trans. Iir)
