The Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya (FH UB) strengthens its international academic network by holding the Student Inbound on Global Criminology program with Utrecht University, the Netherlands. This program will take place on (6/2–10/2/2025) and will be attended by 35 master students from various countries, including the United States, Bangladesh, Italy, and the Netherlands.
The Dean of FH, Dr. Aan Eko Widiarto, S.H., M.Hum., said that this program is an opportunity for foreign students to explore increasingly complex transnational crime issues.
“Their arrival at Universitas Brawijaya is an opportunity to share knowledge, especially related to organized transnational crime. This is also an event for us to demonstrate the role of FH UB in international law studies,” he said.

In addition to exchanging academic insights, this program also aims to enrich the cultural experience for participants. Utrecht University students are scheduled to visit various locations in East Java, such as Mount Bromo and Lapindo Mud, in order to better understand the social and environmental aspects related to environmental law and crime.
Ranitya Ganindha from the International Relations Office (IRO) FH added that this program is part of FH UB’s annual agenda in establishing academic partnerships with foreign universities. “We have collaborated with various international universities, and this year is a special moment because Utrecht University is a new partner in this program,” he explained.
Activities scheduled in this program include academic seminars on campus, visits to Correctional Institutions (Lapas), exploration of Lapindo Mud, and direct dialogue with indigenous people and local farmers who face legal problems related to the environment and forests. One important part of this series of activities is the International Join Seminar entitled “Transnational Organized Crime,” which presents academics and legal experts from FH UB and Utrecht University. This seminar aims to deepen participants’ understanding of transnational crimes and their handling strategies from an international legal perspective.
With this series of activities, it is hoped that students will gain in-depth insight into legal challenges in Indonesia while strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions. (rma/FH PR/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
