In an effort to provide understanding to the community in living side by side with People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ). FISIP-FIB Berbakti Desa Universitas Brawijaya (FBD UB) group 35 held a socialization of ODGJ classification to the community.

This activity took place after the community gathered for a routine weekly tahlilan event at a resident’s house. The activity was attended by approximately 25 people.

The ODGJ socialization that was held contained a clarification of the meaning of ODGJ in order to reduce negative stigma from the community. Continued explanations related to the classification of mental disorders, understanding of mental health while emphasizing the urgency of holding the socialization.

In addition, FBD UB 35 also explained the details of the characteristics, causes and types of mental disorders and how the community handles relatives with mental disorders.

The socialization process was enthusiastically welcomed by the community through discussions accompanied by questions and answers sessions by residents to group 35 FBD UB.

One of the residents, Supriyadi, said that the role of students in society is very much needed, especially in discussions that are often underestimated. “It turns out that ODGJ who are not supported (noticed, ed.), can get sick again, huh?,” said Supriyadi.

Meanwhile, Village Coordinator (Kordes) Pradipta Aryo hopes that with this socialization, the community can understand how to handle ODGJ so that discriminatory attitudes towards survivors can be reduced periodically. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
