The Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), held a workshop on the utilization of AI for writing Scopus-indexed journals on Saturday, December 21, 2024. The event took place at the Ijen Suite Resort and Convention in Malang and was officially opened by the Vice Dean II, Dr. Agus Susilo.
In his remarks, Dr. Agus emphasized the importance of increasing the productivity of scientific publications in line with the target set by the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya to achieve 4,000 Scopus-indexed journal publications by 2025. To contribute to this goal, Fapet UB aims to produce 250 Scopus-indexed journals, requiring synergy and skill enhancement among all educators.
The workshop on journal writing was delivered by Prof. Kuswanto, covering strategies for writing Scopus-indexed journals, from topic selection and article structuring to abstract components. This lecturer from UB’s Faculty of Agriculture also provided practical guidance and motivation to improve the quality of scientific works.
Additionally, a session on the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in journal writing was presented by Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan. In his presentation, the lecturer from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology explained how AI technology can support writing processes, such as abstract formulation, data processing, and language editing.
“AI is a tool, not a replacement for the writer’s creativity. When used correctly, AI can enhance efficiency without compromising academic integrity,” he stated.
The participants demonstrated great enthusiasm during the workshop, actively engaging in the discussions. Acting as the moderator, Vice Dean I, Rizki Prafitri, Ph.D., expressed hope that this activity would drive lecturers’ productivity in meeting Fapet UB’s publication targets while enhancing the institution’s global reputation.
The workshop also included a session on the socialization of academic expertise groupings (KBK) and career mapping for educators. The material, presented by the Directorate of Human Resources (SDM) at Universitas Brawijaya, aimed to provide guidance on academic grouping and career paths for lecturers to strategically support academic targets.
