Malang, February 6, 2025 – The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) continues to innovate in improving the quality of education by introducing industry practitioners as lecturers in all courses for the even semester of 2024/2025. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic theories and industry practices, allowing students to gain more applicable knowledge and skills relevant to the demands of the job market.
To ensure the readiness of this academic semester, Prof. Halim Natsir, as the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science UB, accompanied by the Vice Deans and the Head of the General Affairs and Equipment Subdivision, conducted a direct inspection of several classrooms. This inspection aimed to evaluate the adequacy of facilities and ensure that all preparations met the established standards to support a more effective and comfortable learning environment for both students and lecturers. In addition to checking classroom conditions, the faculty leadership also assessed the readiness of classrooms specifically for the implementation of industry-led courses, which will be a key component of this semester’s curriculum.
The industry practitioners who will be involved in teaching come from well-known livestock and agribusiness companies, including PT. Greenfield, PT. Japfa, PT. Widodo Makmur, Cimory, PT. Charoen Pokphand, and many others. These experts will share their firsthand industry experiences, providing insights into livestock technology, production management, animal health, as well as the business and marketing aspects of the livestock sector.
According to Prof. Halim Natsir, this policy reflects the Faculty of Animal Science UB’s commitment to creating a more dynamic and industry-oriented learning system. “We want students to not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also gain direct experience from professionals who have been actively engaged in the livestock industry. With industry practitioners teaching in every course, we hope that graduates of the Faculty of Animal Science UB will be better prepared to compete in the workforce,” he stated during his classroom inspection.
In addition to integrating industry practitioners into the curriculum, the faculty has also upgraded its classroom facilities by equipping all rooms with 55-inch smart TVs to enhance presentations and interaction between students and lecturers. These technological enhancements are expected to improve the effectiveness of learning, particularly in sessions that require high-quality visual displays, such as videos of industrial production processes and simulations of the latest livestock technologies.
Students have responded positively to this initiative, as learning directly from industry practitioners provides them with real-world perspectives. Many believe that this approach will help them better understand how the theories taught in class are applied in the industry. Furthermore, the presence of industry professionals is expected to open up career and internship opportunities for students looking to gain hands-on experience in the livestock sector after graduation.
With these innovations, the Faculty of Animal Science UB is optimistic that the upcoming even semester will offer a more high-quality, industry-adaptive, and impactful learning experience for students and the entire academic community. mtn
