Pasuruan, November 2, 2024 – A community service team from the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), led by Dr. Khothibul Umam Al Awwaly, S.Pt., MSi, with members Dr. Ir. Aris Sri Widati, MS, and Dr. Premy Puspitawati Rahayu, S.Pt., MP, visited Tutur Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency. The purpose of the visit was to provide assistance in preparing documents for halal certification for business owners in the Gunung Kawi V Farmers Group.
This program, held on November 2, 2024, involved six selected participants out of a total of 50 who had previously attended training on halal certification. The selection was based on the readiness of each small and medium enterprise (SME). The participants managed various types of businesses, including milk crackers, a food stall selling processed chicken products, frozen food products, and ginger syrup.
The event began with opening remarks by the head of the program, Dr. Khothibul Umam Al Awwaly, S.Pt., MSi, followed by a brief presentation on the halal certification process. Participants then received intensive assistance in document preparation and had the opportunity to engage in discussions to deepen their understanding.
The assistance session ran smoothly, with participants successfully completing approximately 90% of the required documents. However, some aspects still needed to be completed, such as obtaining a Business Identification Number (NIB) for certain participants. This step is expected to be addressed promptly to ensure the completeness of the documents before submitting them for certification.
The community service team hopes that this initiative will help business owners more easily obtain halal certification, thereby enhancing consumer trust in their products. “These documents are expected to serve as a clear and effective guide for SMEs in meeting halal standards, expanding market reach, and fostering sustainable and competitive business growth,” said Dr. Khothibul.
With this assistance program, it is hoped that processed products from the Gunung Kawi V Farmers Group can achieve halal certification, improve product quality, and ultimately promote the welfare of the farmers’ group members through increased income. tim/mtn
