Towards the end of 2020, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) received awards from the exclusive local distributor of Esri’s world-leading Geographic Information System (GIS) software, PT ESRI Indonesia.
The awards given were GIS Advisor University 2020 and GIS Influencer Award. These two awards were announced through the ESRI Indonesia GIS Award for Education which was held online through the GotoWebinar on Thursday, 17 December 2020.
Present to receive the award representing UB is the Dean of FTUB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, M.T., IPU. He expressed his highest appreciation for the award given.
“We are proud and honored to be able to get this GIS Advisor University 2020 award,” he said.
He also revealed that in the future, analysis based on spatial data and application of various software based on geo-spatial technology will continue to develop.
Currently, he continued, with the available resources, this technology will be used to increase the competence of graduates and support research in various fields in all existing lines.
Several activities that have utilized GIS technology that have recently been completed by FTUB are land use-based erosion and flood control models.
FTUB also develops, uses, and applies this GIS technology in the early warning system and evacuation routes in the mapping of flood mitigation in relation to the dam collapse.
“The benefits are extraordinary, of course in the future we hope that the cooperation between UB and ESRI will be better and synergize more compactly,” hoped this Water Resources Expert.
Furthermore, the GIS Influencer Award (individual level), was given to Adipandang Yudono, S.Si., MURP., Ph.D. He was awarded this award for his dedication in making spatial awareness available for public and creates path to more informed and effective enterprise GIS.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you for the appreciation. Hopefully we will always be healthy so we can continue to innovate and work for the community,” said the lecturer of Urban and Regional Planning.
For information, Adipandang Yudono and the FTUB lecturer team had recorded and documented six historical buildings in Malang City. This research is the first step to digitizing historical building assets in Malang. (mic)
