UB’s Young Economist: Education and Business World Should be integrated

University of Brawijaya’s young economist, Dias Satria, SE., M.App.Ec, PhD mentioned that the Greater Malang City could become a city with high competitiveness if education and business world are integrated.

“Connectivity becomes issue need to be developed. It is like Switzerland. Switzerland is a city with high competitiveness since able to integrate amid education and business world,” said Dias Satria.

He added that integration of the Greater Malang could create it as city with high competitiveness since each area has excellence. It is like Malang City in education sector, Malang Regency with agro-industry sector and Batu City on its tourism sector.

Similar to Dias Satria, Department Head of Tourism and Hospitality Ahmad Faidlal Rahman, SE.Par., M.Sc added that education and industry world is just like two different currencies. Industry is an effort to produce something. Meanwhile education is an institution that create human resources to run industry.

“By synergy between industry and education in this regard is higher education, then industry can survive,” he said.

College as an education institution is mandatory to create human resources who have skills in professional world. One of them is vocational education of which its curriculum system uses practice and theory system. Practice curriculum to be implemented at UB’s Vocational education is able to create alumni who are competent, either technical or theory.

“In the first, second and third semester, the will be taught with theory. In the fourth and fifth semester, there will be practice in industry. UB’s vocational students are also conditioned to have professional certification released by National Agency of Professional Certification (Badan Nasional Sertifikasi Profesi/BNSP),” said Faidlal.
