UB FIKES DOKAR Team at PKBM Taiwan

Education on balanced nutrition is not only aimed at pregnant women, babies and toddlers. An understanding of education on balanced nutritional consumption is also needed by the elderly. This was carried out by the Lecturer Works team from the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya, under the title Academic, Research, and Community Service Collaboration Discussion with School of Nutrition and Health Sciences TMU & PKBM Taiwanā€¯.

This time, the FIKES Dokar team targeted the Indonesian community at the PPI Taiwan Community Learning Center. This education was held on Saturday-Monday (26-28/10/2024) and was attended by 10 participants who were migrant workers and were currently undergoing education at the location. “This location was chosen because most of the participants are caregivers for the elderly, both at home and in the hospital,” said Catur Saptaning Wilujeng, S.Gz., M.P.H, one of the participants.

The enthusiasm of the participants was proven by the many questions submitted. “During the activity, the participants were enthusiastic in asking questions because as caregivers, they have to prepare food and accompany the elderly, so from this education, it is hoped that it can increase knowledge regarding what foods are nutritious for the elderly,” she added.

The DOKAR program from FIKES is in collaboration with the School of Nutrition and Health Sciences TMU, which was attended by Prof. Rong-Hong Hsieh (Dean of the College of Nutrition), Prof. Yang Suh-Ching (Vice Dean, College of Nutrition), Prof. Susan Jung-Su Chang (Director of Nutrition Research Center) and Prof. Jane Chao (Dean Office of Global Engagement). In addition, there is also an agenda to strengthen educational and research cooperation with a focus on student exchange, joint lectures and seminars, joint research initiatives and publications.
