Students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Universitas Brawijaya carried out a Community Service Programme (KKN) on 22 July 2024 at SDN Bandulan 2, Malang. The KKN (Community Service Programme) is a student service activity aimed at the community, providing students with an educational experience that teaches them to solve societal issues. The programme requires FKH UB students to engage with the community and collaboratively address problems.
This activity took place from 22 July to 7 August 2024 at SDN Bandulan 2, Malang. The participants included Danthina Ravindra, Alfia Ayu, Fatimah Cinta, Nashya Dyo, and Salsabilla Marva, with guidance from Drh. Gretania Residiwati, M.Si., Ph.D. The aim was to help primary school students gain additional knowledge, inspiring them to learn with enthusiasm.
During the programme, the students delivered an educational session titled “Education on Rabies Prevention for Primary School Students at SDN Bandulan 2, Malang.” This was important to raise awareness among students about this dangerous disease. The session covered the factors of transmission, symptoms, and prevention methods to avoid rabies.
Before the lesson began, students were asked to complete a test to assess their initial knowledge of rabies. The learning materials included PowerPoint presentations, booklets, flyers, and posters. To keep the students engaged, enjoyable activities like icebreakers were also prepared. During the lesson, quizzes and reviews of the topics discussed were conducted. The students grew increasingly enthusiastic, especially when answering questions related to rabies and participating in other Q&A sessions. These activities aimed to spark their interest and curiosity about rabies. At the end of the session, another test was administered, and games were conducted to motivate the students further.
Through this KKN, it is hoped that students will become more responsible towards community welfare through animal education, particularly in relation to rabies prevention. This activity aims to instil the spirit of “Manusya Mriga Satwa Sewaka,” fostering dedication to the welfare of all beings.
