A number of lecturers from across UB departments conducted a Community Service program themed “Scientists of UB Goes to Community” to transfer knowledge that has been developed in higher education, (2/2/2025). Scientists are required not only to be able to develop technology and science in the world of campus, but also need to carry out Community Service to apply the knowledge that has been learned and developed.
The Community Service was attended by several lecturers from across faculties, namely Dr. Mohammad Nuh (Faculty of Administrative Sciences); Prof. Ahmad Sabaruddin (MIPA); Prof. Sugiono (F.Industrial Engineering); Dr. Merlya Balbeid (FKG); Dr. Nadia Artha Dewi (FK); Dr. Candra Dewi (FILKOM); Dr. Mufidah Afiyanti (MIPA); and Dr. Runi Asmaranto (FT).
In his speech as a representative of UB Team, Prof. Sabaruddin said that scientists should not only be ivory towers, so it is necessary to do community service to socialize the knowledge developed on campus.
Prof. Sabaruddin explained two activities held in Montok village, namely dental and eye health counseling for students of SDN Montok 1, Larangan District.
In addition, the community service activities carried out by lecturers from various faculties at UB also held discussions with village officials and Village Owned Enterprises (Bumdes) administrators about the role of information technology for the development of Bumdes institutions.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Nuh, as the coordinator of the community service activities, said that the “UB Scientists Visit the Community” program focused on two activities, namely the first counseling on eye and dental health for teachers and students.
The second is a discussion with Bumdes administrators about Bumdes management. The first activity is intended to transfer knowledge for teachers and students in early detection of eye and dental health disorders.
“This second activity aims to increase understanding for Bumdes administrators to utilize information technology in business activities carried out by Bumdes to be more competitive with other business sectors,” said Mohammad Nuh
According to Dr.,dr. Nadia, one of the Lecturers at UB Faculty of Medicine, early detection of eye health disorders (vision) will help reduce more fatal consequences for students, namely worsening, squinting, and lazy eyes.
Through counseling and health check-up practices by teachers, students are expected to be able to carry out early detection independently of students who experience eye health disorders.
The same thing was conveyed by Dr. drg. Merly, as a lecturer and dental specialist that through counseling, it is hoped that there will be an earlier awareness for students to maintain their teeth.
In terms of strengthening Bumdes institutions, according to Candra, it can provide a positive contribution to the growth of the village economy.
Bumdes faces a business competition environment that is not easy. Therefore, strengthening institutions, especially online business development and management digitalization must be prioritized. One of them is website development and utilization of social media for marketing products sold by Bumdes. In addition, technology can also be utilized in financial management. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
