Lecturer of Government Science Explains Indonesian Socio-Religious Phenomenon at the University of Islamic Science Malaysia

Lecturer of Government Science FISIP UB, Dr. Muhammad Lukman Hakim S.IP., M.Si became a speaker at the Guest Lecture and International Policy Talk 2024 event, (9/12/2024) held at Universitas Sains Islam Malaysia.

In the guest lecture attended by USIM international students from various batches, Lukman delivered a paper entitled “Social Policy: Religious Social Phenomenon in Indonesia.” This paper presents the socio-religious phenomenon and relevant policies in Indonesia, including the results of the Social Piety Index (IKS) measurement over the past five years.

Lukman explained that Indonesia’s IKS value showed a general increasing trend, although there were slight fluctuations in several years. Data shows that in 2020 it reached 82.53, then in 2021 it increased to 83.92. The increase occurred again in 2022 with a figure of 84.55. Then in 2023 it decreased to 82.59 and increased again in 2024 to 83.83.

At the East Java Province level, the results of measurements from early 2020 to 2024 also showed a significant increase.

“In collaboration with Bappelitbangda, we have measured the Social Piety Index in a number of regencies/cities in East Java, such as Pasuruan City, Pasuruan Regency, and Blitar Regency. The average value is extraordinary, always above 80,” said Lukman.

The Social Piety Index measured by Lukman’s team consists of five main dimensions, namely Social Solidarity, Interhuman Relations, Maintaining Natural Sustainability, Maintaining Stability and State Dharma and Maintaining Ethics and Character

According to Lukman, the increase in the IKS value reflects the improvement in socio-religious phenomena in Indonesia.

“Hopefully this guest lecture can describe the harmonious religious life in Indonesia to the global world, so that the social policy model in Indonesia can be a barometer for other countries,” he concluded.

This event highlights the importance of cross-cultural learning and social policy as a basis for creating a more harmonious society at the global level.

For information, research on the social piety index in East Java has also been published in the Scopus Q2 journal with the title A Paradox Between Religious Conviction and Recognizing the Freedom of Others on Measuring Religious (in) Tolerance Index in East Java. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
