International Relation Lecturer Assesses that the Victory of Donald Trump Bring Benefit to Indonesian Government

Lecturer of International Relations at Universitas Brawijaya, Adhi Cahya Fahadayna S.Hub.Int., MS revealed that Donald Trump’s victory as President of the United States would benefit the Indonesian Government.

According to Adhi, with the closeness of the ideas raised by the President-elected, Trump with the focus of the current Indonesian government, it is very possible that strategic interests will be built.

“The closeness of the current government to President-elected, Donald Trump has even occurred since 2015. One of the Gerindra Party elites was even widely discussed because he met with President-elected Donald Trump during Trump’s candidacy process in 2015,” he said.

Moreover, said Adhi idiosyncratically, the leadership characters of President Prabowo and President-elected, Donald Trump are very similar and it is possible that strategic relations will be built from this idiosyncratic factor.

“Both President-elected, Trump and President Prabowo became president at an old age, and prioritized conventional and conservative policies,” he explained.

This alumnus of Northeastern University in the United States assessed that the main characteristic of Trump and Prabowo’s leadership is their bias towards grass-roots groups and the working class or farmers.

“Their bias towards conventional and conservative issues is what will drive the intensity of strategic relations for Indonesia and the United States,” Adhi emphasized.

This is then supported by President Prabowo Subianto’s planned visit abroad, one of which is to the United States.

“It is very likely that President Prabowo and President-elected Donald Trump will meet on this occasion, of course with the intention of increasing the significance of the Indonesia-United States strategic partnership,” said Adhi.

Analysis of Trump’s Victory

Adhi assessed that in this year’s election, Donald Trump is still using populist issues in his campaign. From these populist issues, Trump was able to win in 4 decisive states such as Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

According to Adhi, Trump raised big ideas that were coherent with the conditions expected by the majority of Americans. Such as issues on grass roots and workers, especially in industrial areas affected by the economic downturn of the United States and deindustrialization.

“Trump with the idea of ‘Make America Great Again’ is still coherent with this condition and is able to control the Rust Belt areas that are identical to these industrial areas. In addition, the conservatism factor in American society is also a very significant influence,” he concluded. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
