Lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya Dr. Budi Waluyo, SP. MP together with residents and students conducted a trial to develop Raja R7 Corn on one hectare of land in the Kapitan Meo Transmigration Settlement Unit, Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.
R7 Corn itself is the result of Universitas Brawijayas’ breeders in collaboration with private companies whose average productivity reaches 12 tons per hectare. This Raja R7 Corn can be used as a livestock feed crop and can be used as silage. If made into silage, its productivity reaches 35-40 tons per hectare.
Dr. Budi Waluyo, SP. MP as a speaker and companion explained about the acceleration of the independence of transmigrant communities through the optimization of marketing management of Raja R7 Corn commodity in Kapitan Meo which is located on the border between Indonesia and Timor Leste.
“The results of the discussion with the head of Malaka Agriculture Service want the productivity of Raja R7 Corn to reach 12-16 tons per hectare. And from the experiments that have been carried out in several areas with Raja R7 Corn seeds, it can produce 16 tons per hectare as long as there is input in the form of fertilizer. The hope is that if the yield is high, it can certainly be processed into a community industry while the silage can be used as animal feed. In the future, we from the university and the Service hope that the Kapitan Meo area will become one of the centers of excellence for anything that has an impact on the community,” said Budi.
Malaka, especially Trans Kapitan Meo, was chosen as the location because its natural resources are good, the soil is fertile but has limitations in the field of irrigation. So, if it is managed during the rainy season, the results can certainly be enjoyed.
This activity involves Brawijaya Campus, Undana Campus and also from the Transmigration and Agriculture Service in addition that this activity is part of the 2024 Matching Fund Program – Kedaireka on Accelerating the Independence of Transmigrant Communities Through Optimization of Cultivation, Processing, and Marketing of Raja R7 Corn Commodities in Indonesia-Timor Leste Border Transmigration Area which is chaired by Dr. Ir. Panji Deoranto, STP., MP which consists of Dr. Budi Waluyo, SP., MP., Dr. nat.techn. Sudarma Dita Wijayanti, STP., M.Sc., MP., Dr. Ida Nurwiana, M.Si, Dr. Ir. Alfred O.M Dima, M.Si, and Dr. Ir.
