Lecturers at the Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (FKUB) designed the Healthy Champion program for potential Stunting-free leaders. This community service activity was held at SDIT Insantama Malang, from August to October 2023.

The Chief Executive, Dr. Rachmad Sarwo Bekti, M.Med.Ed said, even though the COVID-19 pandemic is over, many students are vulnerable to infectious diseases so the culture of washing hands with soap needs to continue to be implemented properly. The role of students’ parents also needs to be increased regarding clean and healthy lifestyles and regulating eating patterns. In this way, it is hoped that student growth and development will be optimal and infectious diseases will be reduced so that the productivity of students and other individuals at the school is maintained.

In line with the launch of the Healthy School Program by the Government with a focus on health education, health services and fostering a healthy environment, increasing literacy about clean and healthy lifestyles needs to be increased to support efforts to prevent stunting by involving teachers, students and parents.

“It is hoped that this comprehensive approach can expand the benefits of the program considering that good synergy between teachers as role models and parents as educators and the main person responsible for their children is a reflection of the success of children’s education,” said Rachmad Sarwo Bekti.

Some of the programs implemented in this community service include discussions and parenting with teachers and parents of students to increase awareness of the problem of stunting with factors that influence it directly or indirectly with its long-term effects, and screening for the risk of stunting in students by detecting dysbiosis or imbalance. gastrointestinal microbiota.

Meanwhile, the selection of Healthy Champion Student Ambassadors was carried out by preparing a module containing gamified knowledge and activities for grade 3 elementary school students which had to be completed within three weeks with verification from parents. From this module, an assessment and selection of Healthy Champion Student Ambassadors will then be carried out. It is hoped that the gradual filling in of the modules can become a means of transferring health education and raising awareness among parents and teachers about the importance of overcoming the problem of stunting starting from the family environment with school support.

In carrying out the program, Rachmad Sarwo Bekti was assisted by a team consisting of dr. Syahrul Chilmi, M.Biomed, PhD, SpPK(K), Wike Astrid Cahayani, S.Ked., M.Biomed, dr. Dearikha Karina Mayashinta, M. Biomed, dr. Dina Fauziah, as well as several students.

“This program is considered successful if implementation can run smoothly and good cooperation is formed between the community at the school and the community service proponent. “And SDIT Insantama Malang can continue implementing this program independently and sustainably,” concluded Rachmad Sarwo Bekti.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SDIT Insantama, Alimah S.Pd., welcomed and gave full support to this community service activity. She stated that this activity was beneficial for students and the school, especially because it teaches clean and healthy lifestyles in a fun way through the modules that are distributed. The school intends to continue coordination to create modules with typical Insantama characteristics and expand the reach of this healthy champion program to all students at SDIT Insantama.
