
Every year, the Thailand Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) International Conference invites practitioners from various educational disciplines to share their latest research, materials, and innovations in the field of English language teaching. This year, in the 43rd conference, Thailand TESOL International Conference invited Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia (TEFLIN) as partner collaborator to focus on developing the competence of English language teachers in Indonesia.
Prof. Zuliati Rohmah, a lecturer of the English Language Education Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) who is the Regional Coordinator of TEFLIN East Java, representing TEFLIN to fly to Thailand and be one of the speakers at the international conference at the Empress Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

In her presentation, Prof. Zuliati Rohmah shared her own and her team’s experience in conducting trainings on designing multimodal texts to encourage multimodal literacy for students. The program was attended by approximately 250 English teachers from East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and West Sumatra. The teachers admitted that they had learned a lot and enjoyed the training of a 2-day online seminar, five mentoring sessions and three offline sessions.
This spirit to improve teachers’ competence is what Prof. Zuliati Rohmah and her team are motivated to. They are committed to further transfer the knowledge to the participants of the Thailand TESOL International Conference as fellow colleagues in English language education field. [dts/humasfib]
