The Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) recently held an advanced workshop on writing international Scopus-indexed journals and book writing using artificial intelligence (AI) on (09/01/2025). The event was attended by enthusiastic lecturers from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry who were keen to improve their academic writing skills by utilizing the latest technology.
The workshop was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science UB, Prof. M. Halim. In his opening remarks, he stated that this training is a form of the faculty’s ongoing commitment to leveraging AI opportunities in the education sector. “This workshop not only aims to improve the productivity and quality of our lecturers’ publications but also serves as a preparation step to welcome the new study program,” said Prof. Halim.
The workshop featured Dr. Feri Eko Hermanto as the speaker and trainer. Dr. Feri, an active lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry UB, is known as one of the youngest doctoral graduates at Universitas Brawijaya. He is an alumnus of the Master Education to Doctorate for Outstanding Scholars (PMDSU) program, who has shown outstanding achievements in the academic field. During the training session, Dr. Feri shared his experiences and practical techniques in writing international journals and composing books with the help of AI.
The participants were guided to directly practice using various AI-based applications that can accelerate the writing process, such as tools for paraphrasing, plagiarism detection, and automatic reference management. Additionally, they were provided with materials on strategies for publishing in international Scopus-indexed journals, including topic selection, composing compelling abstracts, and techniques for responding to reviewers.
In a separate interview, Filoza M.Pt., one of the participants, expressed enthusiasm for the workshop. “We found this workshop very helpful because AI technology truly facilitates the writing and management of academic manuscripts. We hope that such activities can be held regularly,” said one of the participating lecturers.
This workshop is part of a series of academic capacity-building programs initiated by the Faculty of Animal Husbandry UB. It is expected that the outcomes of this training will make a tangible contribution to increasing the number and quality of international publications and accelerating the realization of the new study program planned by the faculty.
With the success of this workshop, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry UB once again demonstrates its commitment to producing high-quality and innovative academics who are ready to face global challenges in the digital era. mtn
