Encouragement as an Icon of Education, UB K3L Division Holds Monitoring and Evaluation at UB Forest

K3L Monitoring and Evaluation at UB Forest

The Health, Occupational Safety and Environment Division Team of Universitas Brawijaya (K3LH UB) held a Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) activity at UB Forest. This location is an educational forest owned by UB located in the villages of Sumbersari and Sumbersekar, on the slopes of Mount Arjuna, East Java, Friday (7/6/2024).

Health, Occupational Safety and Environment (K3LH) is a very important concept in the world of work, which aims to prevent and minimize the occurrence of work accidents and protect the health of workers in their work environment.

Head of UB’s K3L Division, Prof. Dr. Ir. Qomariyatus Sholihah, M.Kes explained. “K3L is an activity where every human activity has a risk of danger, both indoor and outdoor activities,” he said.

In addition to the office, one of the external scopes of the work environment of Universitas Brawijaya employees is in UB Forest, an educational forest located on the slopes of Mount Arjuno with a forest area of around 554 hectares.

As one of those involved in minimizing the risk of danger, K3L conducts monitoring and evaluation (Monev) to realize worker safety in the Forestry sector within UB Forest scope.

Aspects that need to be considered, according to Qoqom, include human resources. “There needs to be an assessment of whether the skills are appropriate, the need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), how the role of leadership is to protect everything: land, water, trees, flora-fauna and everything in it has risks and other impacts,” he explained.

He explained the need for signs as a form of education to minimize disasters such as fires, landslides, fallen trees, and the need for safety and the need for central to lower leadership meetings so that they are well coordinated.

In the activity, it was explained that this monitoring and evaluation was carried out periodically, “After the initial assessment, it was then monitored, whether the assessment had been followed up by UB Forest, and this monitoring was purposed to see whether it had been implemented or not. If so, how was the implementation,” he explained again.

UB Forest, which is an asset of Universitas Brawijaya, is expected to be productive and become an icon. Therefore, one thing that can be done is maintenance, well this maintenance is carried out periodically to minimize the risk of fires, landslides, fallen trees, reforestation to maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem and sustainability.

K3L Team

Prof. Qoqom hopes that good and effective coordination between UB Forest and K3L and related divisions will have a sense of belonging and care for each other. “The implementation of 5R (Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, dan Rajin) or Concise, Neat, Clean, Maintain, and Diligent is very necessary, where UB Forest is an important asset to be maintained and preserved as an educational forest, research forest, as a superior and where UB has a forest that contributes greatly to the world, especially its oxygen and is useful for bringing benefits to the people,” he concluded.
