PLAY WITH ECOBRICK: Transforming Plastic Waste into Interesting Works

Group 01 FISIP-FIB Berbakti Desa Universitas Brawijaya (FBD UB) Duwet Krajan Village, Malang Regency held a “Dolanan Ecobrick (Play with Ecobrick)” activity at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Miftahul Huda to teach how to process plastic waste into ecobricks, an environmentally friendly alternative that can be recreated, one of which is into a trash box.

Before the event began, all students were asked to bring used plastic bottles and plastic waste, especially cutted snack plastic. Then, assisted by members of group 01, the plastic waste was compacted into bottles so that the resulting ecobrick was strong and durable. Furthermore, to add aesthetic value, the ecobrick trash can creation was painted with red color.

One of the students of MTs Miftahul Huda, Nia, expressed her gratitude for the training.

“Thank you for teaching us all to manage waste by making ecobricks so that the environment becomes clean,” she said, adding that she felt that the Dolanan Ecobrick activity was very beneficial for the surrounding environment.

In addition to teaching new skills, this activity also functions as environmental education by teaching them about the importance of waste management and its impact on the environment.

“We thank our colleagues at FBD UB 01 and hope that the production of ecobrick works can continue to be made and duplicated by our students, even into other works,” said Miftakhul Munib, Head of MTs Miftahul Huda.

The initiative to process plastic waste into ecobricks began with the problems faced by Duwet Krajan Village. The lack of trash bins and poor waste management are the main problems that the village apparatus asked for help in resolving. Through the ecobrick alternative, FBD UB 01 hopes that ecobricks can inspire village communities to solve waste problems, especially plastic waste. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
