FTP Lecturer Works Trains Batu Farmers to Diversify the Derivative Fruit and Vegetable Products

The work experience of lecturers outside the campus is one of the most valuable components in determining the quality, productivity and performance of lecturers. However, in reality, the number of lecturers who work outside the campus such as practitioners/experts/consultants at cooperation partners is still limited.

The Lecturer Works Program at Universitas Brawijaya in 2021 is one of the flagship programs of Universitas Brawijaya which was first launched in 2021 through PNBP funds of Universitas Brawijaya with the output is lecturers work outside the campus to help solve problems that exist in the community. Lecturer works activities take place from June 2021 to November 2021. Together with the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Batu City, the lecturer works team carry out several trainings and assistances, especially for members of Farmer Group Association (Gapoktan), farmer groups and millennial farmers in Batu City.

The  activity of lecturer works together with the Department of Agriculture and Food Security in Batu City were carried out by a team of lecturers from FTP Universitas Brawijaya, which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso (TIP) with members of a lecturer team are Claudia Gadizza Perdani, STP, MSi (TIP), Danang Triagus Setiyawan, STP, MT (TIP), Muhammad Arif Kamal, STP, MSi (TIP), and Jhauharotul Muchlisyiyah, STP, MP (THP). The team of lecturer works conduct training on digital marketing and processing of derivative vegetable and fruit products. The Derivative vegetable products that were trained included mustard nuggets, pickled mustard greens and kimchi. While derivative fruit products include apple leather.

Through this lecturer works program, it is expected to be able to improve the skills and knowledge of Vegetable and Fruit Farmers in Batu City in the field of technological innovation and digital marketing. Whereas, for the lecturers of Universitas Brawijaya, it is hoped that they will be able to increase the capacity and skills of lecturers in the realm of practice and implementation of the scientific field.
