UB Doctoral Service Collaborates with Lumajang Health Office to Present Elderlt Love Corner

As an effort to improve the quality of life of the elderly in Lumajang Regency, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in collaboration with Lumajang Regency Health Office (Dinkes) has launched an innovative program that aims to create a more supportive environment for the elderly. This program is called UB 2024 Real Work Lecture – Doctor Teaching (KKN-DM) “Elderly Love Corner” and will be implemented in Kraton Village, Yosowilangun District.

The program proposed by Dr. Ns. Kumboyono, S.Kep.M.Kep.Sp.Kep.Kom., Ns. Elvira Sari Dewi, S.Kep., M.Biomed, Ns. Niko Dima Kristianingrum, M.Kep, Sp.Kep.Kom, Agwin Fahmi Fahanani, S.T., M.T, drg. Astika Swastirani, M.Si., Mochamad Saiful Anwar, Iryne Putri Syadilla, Diva Ayu Setyaningsih, Luis Figo Febriano, and Ni Putu Wahyu Eastiya. The collaboration of the team of lecturers and students from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), Faculty of Medicine (FK), and Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) aims to build an Elderly-Friendly Park equipped with various facilities specifically designed to support the health and well-being of the elderly. One of the main facilities that will be built in this park is the Multi-Generation Ergonomic Chair.

“This chair is designed to provide maximum comfort for the elderly, allowing them to sit comfortably for long periods of time without feeling uncomfortable or tired. The tilt angle of this chair is optimized at 5°-10° towards the back,” said Isal, the student team that created the multi-generation ergonomic chair.

In addition, there will also be Stone Sensory Therapy designed to stimulate the elderly’s senses, help relieve stress, improve balance, and stimulate their body’s senses.

“Aromatherapy Sensory Therapy will also be provided in this park. This therapy uses a variety of fragrant plants to provide health and fitness benefits, helping to maintain the physical and mental health of the elderly.” Added Ns. Elvira Sari Dewi as a lecturer in the Bunda Lansia training webinar activity on July 27, 2024.

In addition to these facilities, this program also involves mentoring from Bunda Lansia, namely elderly health cadres from village women who have been trained to provide Long-Term Care (PJP) to the elderly. They will support and reduce the workload of informal caregivers and ensure that the elderly receive quality care.

“This program is in line with UB’s efforts to improve community welfare through community service programs. Students and a team of lecturers from various departments will be involved in this activity, providing direct experience in supporting and improving the welfare of the elderly.” concluded Ns. Kumboyono as the Chief Executive of the Doctoral Service “Pojok Kasih Lansia

The Lumajang Regency Health Office also provides full support for this program. With the assistance and empowerment of elderly health cadres, it is hoped that the achievement of Minimum Service Standards (SPM) in Lumajang Regency will increase significantly.

The main objective of this program is to improve the quality of life of the elderly in Lumajang Regency by providing supportive recreational and educational facilities. In addition, this program also aims to improve the physical and mental well-being of the elderly. With the availability of specially designed facilities, the elderly are expected to be able to enjoy life more happily and healthily. This program also aims to provide support to informal caregivers by helping to reduce their workload through assistance and training provided by Bunda Lansia.

With the existence of this “Elderly Love Corner” program, it is hoped that the quality of life of the elderly in Lumajang Regency, especially in Yosowilangun District, can increase significantly. This program is also in line with the principles of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 9, and 17, which emphasize the importance of good health, innovation, and partnerships to achieve common goals.

“Hopefully, the elderly in Lumajang Regency can enjoy a happier and healthier life, and get proper and quality care.” Iryne concluded in the Opening agenda of “Elderly Love Corner” last August. [pon/oki/UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
