An atmosphere of enthusiasm enveloped the Widyaloka Building, Universitas Brawijaya on Tuesday (7/30/2024). Hundreds of new students (maba) were enthusiastic about taking their alma mater coat that were ready to be distributed. This collection took place in several sessions with two faculties being divided per day. The Faculty of Cultural Studies and the Faculty of Vocational Studies took the first day to take the alma mater. This period of alma mater coat taking is scheduled until Friday next week (9/8/2024). This joy was even more felt because the distribution process for this year’s alma mater was much faster than in previous years.
Director of UB Asset Directorate, Mr. Heri Prawoto Widodo, S.Sos., M.A.B., revealed that his party had made thorough preparations so that the distribution of alma maters could run smoothly and on time.
“We are indeed trying to arrange condition for the distribution of alma mater coats earlier. Whatever we go through would not be the same as before. We always want to be better. With the existing problems, whatever form they take, we can anticipate them. And thank God, this period we have been able to get alma mater coat in various sizes available,” he said.
“We have several predictions from the previous year about which ones will be the most, which ones will be an alternative for students to take. We have now prepared 16 thousand alma maters. For the size itself, we mostly provide sizes S and M, today there are also many S and M. Sizes L and XL are only 1 to 3 of sizes S and M,” added Heri.
The process of taking alma maters is also designed in such a way that it is efficient and does not take much time. Students only need to bring their Temporary Student ID Card (KTMS) and follow the officer’s instructions.
“All those who have re-registered either from the SNBP, SNBT, Independent, Achievement, and Independent UTBK pathways who already have a Student Number (NIM) can pick it up today by printing the KTMS according to the scheduled faculty. For each day, we allocate the distribution of coats for 1500 – 2000 students if all can attend,” he said.
This faster distribution of alma maters is designed so that new students can wear them during the upcoming PKKMB.
“It can be wore at PKKMB for the symbolic wearing of alma maters which will be attended by all new student participants. If there are some who cannot pick it up themselves, we will make a power of attorney in the hope that they can still pick it up until August 9th. So, even though they are present close to the PKKMB ceremony on August 12th, I think it is enough to provide that opportunity. The point is we don’t force students too much, if they can attend, please do so, if they can’t attend, they can still come at another time within the period until August 9,” said Heri.
The Director of UB Asset also expressed his happiness for being able to provide the best service to new students.
“Alhamdulillah, we can serve students comfortably and without obstacles. If it’s like this, there will be nothing difficult for the students, even though the place is not in the building, it is still comfortable because the circulation is smooth. And the health department is also involved here to take care of the students’ BPJS health,” he said.
In line with the Director of Asset’s statement, the new students also expressed their happiness and pride in being able to get their alma maters faster. Alexandria Cirana Putri, a new Vocational student from Lumajang, admitted that she was very happy to be able to wear her new alma mater right away.
“I feel very happy now but I also have to be ready to face the world of college which is definitely different from the world of high school,” she said.
Belen Ratu Vena, who is familiarly called Belen, another new Vocational student, also felt happy to be able to get her alma mater before orientation.
“I think the mechanism for collecting the alma mater is very easy since it is directed by the officer,” he said.
Ricky, a new English Literature student, also shared his happiness. “Today I got an alma mater, hat, and tie. I feel happy and proud to be accepted at this favorite university,” he said.
In addition to being faster, this year’s alma mater design has also undergone slight changes. Several students said that the color of this year’s alma mater is slightly different from the previous year. However, overall, they were satisfied with the new alma mater design.
