Not only when they are students, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) guides graduates until they get decent jobs. This was conveyed by the Director of the Directorate of Career and Alumni Development (DPKA) Karuniawan Puji Wicaksono, S.P., MP, Ph.D in front of 15,487 new students. This activity is part of the second day of Introduction to Campus Life (PKKMB) 2023, Tuesday (15/08/2023).
“We conducted a tracer study to ascertain whether UB graduates are already working, where do they work, and whether the salary is decent,” said Karuniawan.
Karuniawan explained, coaching for students was carried out since the lecture period. DPKA provides assistance to improve soft skills, such as building self-confidence, counseling related to job interviews, how to dress professionally, how to write a CV, making it easier for students to enter the professional world.
“We also provide introductory training on the world of work, such as introducing employee recruitment selection, and initiating collaborations with corporate partners for the career development of students and alumni,” said the lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture.
DPKA also has an Integrated Career Development System (SPKT), to help students create automatic CVs based on academic data and student portfolios, including student achievements.
“Make sure that during your studies you have achievements in various fields to support your CV. UB has provided many means for achievement, including 52 Student Activity Units. Your start is not when you graduate, but from now on you have to think about improving your soft skills in English and IT, so that when you graduate you are confident in your skills,” he said.
On this occasion, Karuniawan also explained the survey that will be conducted in 2022. Out of 10 thousand UB graduates in 2021, 84 percent are recorded as getting decent jobs, namely 68 percent are working, 5 percent are entrepreneurs, and 11 percent are doing further studies.
As many as 53.86% of graduates had a waiting period of less than 6 months to get a job, and 17.1% had found a job before graduation. The amount of income per month for fresh graduates in 2021 is 39% reaching Rp. 5-10 million with the types of workplaces spread across BUMN, government agencies, self-employed, or continuing education.
“The survey was carried out in Covid conditions, make sure you will be much better than the 2021 graduate generation,” he concluded. [Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
