FTP Anniversary Launches 300+ Scopus Journals Carrying Sustainable Agroindustry Transformation using IoT and AI

The Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Brawijaya (FTP UB) celebrated its 27th Anniversary with the theme “Advancing Smart and Sustainable Agroindustry by Leveraging IoT and AI” on Friday (1/24/2025). The event took place at the FTP Auditorium from 08.00 AM to 01.00 PM with a series of activities that rich in academic achievements and technological innovations.

The series of activities were opened with an Open Senate Meeting by the Chairperson of the FTP Senate, Dr. Ir. Bambang Susilo, M.Sc.Agr. In his remarks, Bambang emphasized that FTP has shown rapid growth during its 35 years of existence. “This achievement should not only be a source of pride for FTP, but must also bring benefits for the community, especially the lower classes,” he said.

The Chairperson of the Dies Natalis, Prof. Sri Suhartini, STP., M.Env.Mgt., Ph.D., reported on various activities that had been carried out, including table tennis, chess, and children’s fashion shows. “This event successfully involved 28 sponsors and appreciated 15 award categories. All of this shows that FTP is a special and extraordinary faculty,” she said.

Vice Rector 1 for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, MP., also appreciated FTP for its contribution in improving UB’s academic reputation at the international level. “In the last five years, UB’s position has risen from 1001+ to 818 in the world. The contribution of publications and international networks is very significant in this achievement,” he said.

The 27th Anniversary is a moment to launch 300+ Scopus journal publications as a form of FTP’s commitment to support the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Dean of FTP, Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan, STP., M.App.Life.Sc., Ph.D., said that improving research and publications is a top priority. “We target each lecturer to produce at least two journals per year, so that the target of 4,000 UB publications can be achieved,” he explained in a press interview.

In addition, FTP also launched international associations, namely the South East Asia Sensory Association and the International Tuber and Root Innovation Forum. The submission of minutes from representatives of the associations to the Dean of FTP marked the beginning of global collaboration to improve innovation in the field of food technology.

This event was attended by lecturers, students, and several invited guests. Two scientific orations were also delivered by Ir. Suwarno and Prof. Sucipto, S.TP., MP.

Ir. Suwarno discussed the importance of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in creating a smart and sustainable agro-industry. “IoT allows physical devices to be connected to share data, while AI helps in making smart decisions,” he explained.

Prof. Sucipto highlighted the importance of providing halal and quality food through the integration of modern technology and management. “The development of AI has become a tool that supports the provision of halalan thayyiban food,” he said.

The event went smoothly, accompanied by FTP performance reports and remarks from academic officials. The Dean of FTP, Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan expressed his gratitude to all parties who have supported the implementation of this event. “Togetherness and hard work are the keys to the success of this Dies Natalis,” he said.

With a major theme that carries the latest technology, the 27th anniversary is expected to be a momentum for FTP to continue to contribute to innovation in agro-industrial technology. “We hope that IoT and AI technology can be implemented widely, so that it has a real impact on agriculture and the food industry in Indonesia,” said Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan.
