Civil Engineering Department, FT UB Warmly Welcomes Visit from Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM)

Malang, January 15, 2025 – The Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB), welcomed a special visit from the Civil Engineering Study Program of Buildings, Universitas Negeri Makassar  (UNM). This activity aims to strengthen academic relations between the two institutions while providing new insights to UNM students.

The Head of the Civil Engineering Department, FT UB, Ir. Eko Andi Suryo, ST., MT., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., delivered his warm welcome. On that occasion, he introduced various culinary specialties of Malang City that can be enjoyed by students and lecturers from UNM while in this city.

“Malang is not only known as a city of education, but also a culinary heaven like in Makassar. We hope this experience will add to the beautiful memories during your visit here and try some of Malang’s culinary specialties,” said Eko.

In addition, the Department of Civil Engineering FT UB also held a guest lecture session presented directly by Saifoe El Unas, ST., MT. The material presented focused on “Building Structure Law”, a very relevant topic in the world of civil engineering.

This lecture provides an in-depth understanding of the principles of structural law that support building safety and sustainability. It is hoped that students can understand the importance of regulations in ensuring safe and durable building structures.

This activity took place in the Hall of the Department of Civil Engineering FT UB and was attended enthusiastically by almost 90 participants. In the discussion session, UNM students actively asked questions about the implementation of building structure law in Indonesia, especially in the context of the construction of modern buildings.

In his speech, the Head of the Civil Engineering Study Program of Makassar State University (UNM), Dr. H. Muh Idhil Maming, ST, MT, expressed his deepest gratitude for being well received at Brawijaya University, especially in the Department of Civil Engineering.

“We are grateful to be able to visit Universitas Brawijaya, especially in the Department of Civil Engineering. In addition, our students also gained useful knowledge during the visit here,” he explained.

The visit ended with the handover of souvenirs between the two institutions as a symbol of friendship and academic cooperation. Then the UNM group continued the tour to the rooms and laboratories in the Department of Civil Engineering FT UB.

With this visit, the Department of Civil Engineering FT UB showed its commitment to continue building synergy with other institutions in order to improve the quality of engineering education in Indonesia, especially in the field of civil engineering. [drn]
