The Physics Department, led by Dr. Eng. Masruroh, M.Si, is further strengthening academic and research relations with Universiti Malaya, especially through collaboration with Prof. Sulaiman Wadi Harun, a renowned photonics expert from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. The university is currently ranked 64th in the world by the QS 100. This collaboration aims to deepen joint research and publications in the field of photonics, especially in the development of functional layers based on optical sensors that have great potential in technology and industrial applications.
In addition to research, academic collaboration is also realized through the holding of a guest lecture by Prof. Sulaiman with the topic “Photonics Technology: Pioneering the Future at Light Speed” on Thursday, October 31, 2024. This guest lecture was opened by the Dean of FMIPA UB, Dr. Ratno Bagus E. Wibowo, and attended by 70 students from the Department of Physics and teaching staff, including Dr. D. J. Djoko H. Santjojo, Dr. Istiroyah, Dr. Sriherwiningsih, and Dewi Anggraeni, M.Sc. This lecture provides important insights related to laser technology, fiber optics, and their applications in the world of technology and industry, which are expected to inspire students to dive deeper into the field of photonics.
In the future, the Department of Physics plans to expand cooperation through a student outbound program, where 4 students, consisting of 2 undergraduate students and 2 postgraduate students, will conduct research at Universiti Malaya with funding support from UB Star in 2025. This program is expected to provide international academic experience to UB students.
This collaboration was also marked by the signing of the Implemented Agreement (IA) document between the Department of Physics UB and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Universiti Malaya in the field of research. The UB Physics Department hopes that through collaborations such as the Adjunct Professor Program and other academic activities, the quality of research and learning at UB can continue to improve, and help UB to achieve a position in the international ranking.
