Five students of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) made a concept for sensitive toothpaste products from nano calcium of chicken egg shells and chamomile.
Egg shell was chosen as the main ingredient since it contains one of the largest sources of calcium carbonate with a concentration of 95%.
Meanwhile, chamomile is a dentin anti persensitivity and is aromatic which makes the user comfortable and does not get nauseous when brushing teeth.
In addition, Chamomile functions as therapeutic agents because it has anti-bacterial properties and acts as a soft tissue healing agent so it is good for gums as well as overcoming inflammation of the gums.
In the manufacturing process, egg shells will be converted into hydroxyapatite powder using nano technology which functions to reduce the calcium particles of chicken egg shells so that they facilitate absorption.
This is very good for the formation of enamel on teeth because it contains a lot of hydroxyapatite and can periodically close the exposed dentinal tubules due to sensitive teeth,” said PKM-K Chair, Rhifa Siti Fauziah.
The design of sensitive toothpaste is important because some of the sensitive toothpaste products contain detergents.
One thing to be concerned out is the detergent content of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) toothpaste. SLS as a toothpaste detergent has the highest risk of causing irritation to the soft tissues in the oral cavity.
The use of natural ingredients is certainly has superior value to chemicals, this can be the best alternative for maintaining healthy teeth and mouth.
Especially for people with sensitive teeth who need more active substances to cover the exposed tooth tissue to stimulate pain.
Their toothpaste product which they named DENATALIS is still a product concept.
“Even though it is only a product concept now, I hope as an advisor, this toothpaste concept can be useful, efficient, economical, and can be followed up for production. Reminds that the benefits offer, the product can compete, ”said Prasetyo Adi, drg., as an advisor.
This product is here to answer doubts due to the side effects that can be caused by synthetic ingredients in toothpaste, especially in a group of people who have sensitive teeth.
Denatalis is a PKM-K program initiated by five cross-department students consisting of Rhifa Siti Fauziah ND, Umi Laila Sari, Berliana Arifa Noer Shodiq, Dimas Teguh Prasetiyo from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry (Fapet) and Izatannisa Nurma Ramadhani from the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) .
