Achieving the Vision of Internationalization: Fisheries Socio-Economic Study Program of PSDKU Kediri Establishes Cooperation with Universitas Kebangsaan Malaysia

Fisheries Socio-Economic Study Program PSDKU Kediri Universitas Brawijaya (UB) begins a collaboration initiative with the Faculty of Economics and Management, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

In October 2023, the Fisheries Socio-Economic Study Program, PSDKU Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Kediri, began a collaboration initiative with the Faculty of Economics and Management, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Approximately one year later, precisely on Tuesday (3/9/2024), the Fisheries Socio-Economic Study Program officially received a complete Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) document at the Faculty of Economics and UKM Management, Malaysia. This MoA is the basis for the implementation of the tri dharma of higher education and internationalization efforts together by both parties.

This collaboration has been implemented since June 2024 through a joint teaching/lecture program, where two lecturers from UKM, Dr. Mariani Abdul Majid, and Dr. Naziatul Aziah Mohd-Radzi, gave lectures on Macroeconomics and Fisheries Sociology to students of Fisheries Socio-Economics (PSDKU Kediri) through UB 3in1 Program 2024.

The delegation of the Fisheries Socio-Economic Study Program Dokar Team, PSDKU UB Kediri, consisting of Dr. Zainal Abidin, S.Pi, MP., M.BA (Head of Study Program), Prof. Dr. Ir. Pudji Purwanti, M.P, Supriyadi, S.Pi., M.P, Asyifa Anandya, S.Pi, M.Sc, Mentari Puspa Wardani, S.Pi, M.Si, and Dwi Sofiati, S.Pi, M.Si, visited Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia on September 2-4, 2024, in the context of the Implementation Agreement (IA) related to Research Fellowship activities through the 2024 UB Dosen Berkarya Grant.

The meeting began with remarks by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hakimi bin Mohd. Shafiai (Dean Team of the Industry and Community Network) and Dr. Zainal Abidin S.Pi, MP., M.BA (Head of the Fisheries Socio-Economic Study Program). In the meeting, Dr. Zainal Abidin presented a Research Fellowship proposal that focuses on the topics of Fisheries Development Economics, Poverty and Welfare of Fisheries Communities, and Climate Change in Coastal Areas.

This meeting resulted in an agreement and signing of the IA regarding research collaboration through the Research Fellowship grant scheme with the theme “The Impact of Climate Change on the Mangrove Ecotourism Industry in East Java.” This research will involve the preparation of proposals, implementation, data analysis, preparation of scientific articles, and publication in reputable international journals during the period 2024-2025 period.

In addition, the two institutions agreed to form a joint international research grant team with the theme “The Impact of Climate Change on Fishing Communities (Study of Vulnerability and Resilience Levels of Coastal Communities).” In 2024, it is also planned to carry out international community service activities in Surabaya mangrove area and hold a joint international seminar to be held by PSDKU Kediri, where Dr. Mariani Abdul Majid will be the keynote speaker.
