Callan Rahmadyvi Triyunanto is a deaf student from the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya. He is a speaker in an inclusion webinar with the theme of awareness of disabilities in the workplace, which aims to increase the understanding and inclusion of disabled employees in the company.

The webinar organized by PT Rolls Royce Solutions Indonesia was held on Monday (23/9/2024) to coincide with the celebration of the International Week of Deaf People 2024 and the International Day of Sign Languages 2024.

In this seminar, Callan shared his inspiring story as a participant in the MSIB Program (Certified Independent Internship and Study), known to the public as the first Deaf student to participate in this prestigious program.

In addition to sharing his experience, Callan also provided a short training on Sign Language to the webinar participants.

The webinar was warmly welcomed by Rolls Royce Solutions Indonesia employees, who saw it as an important step in increasing understanding of disabilities, especially in creating a more inclusive work environment.

“My experience in the MSIB program was very valuable, especially because I could prove that Deaf friends also have the same potential and skills as hearing friends. Through this webinar, I hope that Rolls Royce employees can be more open in accepting and collaborating with Deaf friends in the work environment,” said Callan.

In addition to being known as the first Deaf student to participate in the MSIB Program, he is also active in various activities that promote inclusion and equality for the Deaf community.

“I hope that with events like this, more companies will realize the importance of creating an inclusive work environment for all, regardless of physical abilities. Deaf employees have great potential, and it’s time we open up more opportunities for them,” said Callan.

This inclusion webinar had a positive impact on the participants. Many employees expressed their gratitude and admiration for the material presented.

“This is the first opportunity for us to learn together with a Deaf person. I feel very inspired, especially by Callan’s passion and courage,” said Faradilla Permadi Anwar.

“We not only learned about Sign Language, but also about the importance of building an inclusive environment in the workplace. This is a very valuable experience for us,” said Lisa.

Faradilla Permadi Anwar, a representative of Human Resources Rolls Royce Solutions Indonesia, also stated that this webinar is a momentum for the company to affirm its commitment for supporting disability inclusion.

“We are very enthusiastic about this collaboration, especially since this is our first opportunity to learn directly from a Deaf person. This webinar is held to provide an understanding to all employees about the importance of inclusion and awareness of disabilities in the workplace,” said Faradilla.

In addition, Lisa Martisa Bastomi, who was also one of the movers of this event, expressed her hope that this webinar would be the beginning of a broader awareness in the company.

“Everyone here is inspired by Callan’s story and skills. I personally did not expect that he was so great out there, both as a student and as a person. This shows that Deaf friends have extraordinary abilities that are often unknown to many people,” said Lisa.

In this webinar, Callan not only shared his experiences during the MSIB Program, but also provided basic teaching on Sign Language. Participants learned how to communicate with Deaf friends using basic signs, which is expected to improve their ability to interact with Deaf colleagues.

This event was held as part of the commemoration of the International Week of Deaf People 2024, which is a global inclusion week to raise awareness of the rights and abilities of Deaf friends.

This year, the commemoration carries the theme “A World Where Deaf People Everywhere Can Sign!” which aims to strengthen support for the deaf community around the world.

Meanwhile, the International Day of Sign Languages 2024 which falls on September 23, is an important moment to celebrate the diversity of sign languages around the world and encourage the global community to better appreciate the role of Sign Language in the daily lives of Deaf friends.
