Biosecurity in the livestock farming is a series of activities designed to prevent disease from entering the farm area or spreading outside. So that the purpose of biosecurity is to separate the host (livestock) from the germs.

Likewise, for poultry farmers to produce healthy livestock, they must pay attention to biosecurity factors which include sanitation management, vaccination, and cage hygiene. In addition, breeders must also pay attention to balance diet / balance feed and intestinal health.

Balance feed can be done by selecting quality raw feed ingredients, good storage, ideal nutritional formulation and good feed management.

Meanwhile, intestinal health must be maintained to accelerate the growth of good bacteria and prevent pathogenic bacteria, by using several alternative antibiotics. Such as organic acids, probiotics, pre-biotics, enzymes, phytogenic compounds in one use or combination since the beginning of the life cycle of poultry.

This statement was explained by the speakers of the online seminar activity initiated by the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), with the theme Healthy Poultry Production, Saturday (8/08/2020).

The speakers in the online activity were industry practitioners, academics, and the research community who carried out research focused on seeds, feed, and management of healthy poultry maintenance. Mohamed Shakal (Director of the Endemic and Emerging Poultry Diseases Research Center, Cairo University), Dr. Ali Mubarak, Ph.D (Senior Technical Manager Evonik SEA, Singapore), and Dr.Ir. Irfan H. Djunaidi, M.Sc., IPM., ASEAN Eng (Faculty of Animal Husbandry UB).

The moderator of the event, Dr. Ir. Osfar Sjofjan, M.Sc., IPU., ASEAN Eng said that the discussion on the topic of poultry was very interesting since poultry is a livestock commodity that is in great demand by the public to meet the needs of animal protein and as an investment.

However, there are several things that need to be considered in order to realize the success of poultry raising efforts which are, breed selection, housing systems, feed management, and appropriate disease prevention programs. This is because poultry that are raised in a healthy environment will produce large egg production and high-quality meat when compared to having a high density. (dta/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
