
The Information and Public Relations Division of Universitas Brawijaya (DIK UB) held a Casual Discussion and Chat (BONSAI) with journalists, Thursday (03/20/2025), in the Banquet Room, 6th Floor of the Rectorate Building. This time, BONSAI raised the theme “Alumni: Inspiration, Contribution, and Dedication to the University”, by presenting speakers, Director of the Directorate of Career Development and Alumni Karuniawan Puji Wicaksono, S.P., M.P., Ph.D and Secretary General of UB Alumni Association, Dilan Batuparan, S.H., M.M.
The University Secretary, Dr. Tri Wahyu Nugroho, S.P., M.Si in his speech conveyed that one indicator of the success of a university is seen from the role of alumni. Therefore, the contribution and dedication of alumni to the alma mater have a big influence on the university.

This activity was opened by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni and Student Entrepreneurship Dr. Setiawan Noerdajasakti, S.H., M.H. He said that UB welcomes the existence of various alumni communities at UB. In addition to the Alumni Association which covers alumni as a whole, there are also Alumni Associations based on faculty, profession, science, interests and talents, and region.
“I appreciate the alumni’s desire to develop their alma mater. We hope that UB alumni will be stronger, exist, and their love for their alma mater will continue to grow,” he said.
The Director of the Career and Alumni Development Directorate (DPKA) Karuniawan Puji Wicaksono, S.P., M.P., Ph.D., said that UB is trying to prepare prospective alumni, young alumni, and senior alumni for better careers through DPKA.
Starting from guiding, training, coaching, cooperation with the professional world such as State- Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Banking, until this year it was recorded that 86 percent of UB graduates in 2024 were declared to have decent work by Dikti. Namely working in the professional field with a salary of 1.2 times of the Provincial Minimum Sallary, and continuing their studies to a higher level.
“DPKA also routinely holds career expos which attended by dozens of companies, BUMN, and banks, routinely schedules walk-in interviews with various company partners, and has a system of tracer study to track UB alumni in order to evaluate the quality of education,” explained Karuniawan Puji Wicaksono.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of UB Alumni Association, Dilan Batuparan, S.H., M.M explained that various activities of UB Alumni Association include fostering alumni and alma mater kinship, conducting business activities for the benefit of alumni and alma mater, establishing cooperation, implementing UB’s vision and mission, and having the basic principle of never being separated from ties with the alma mater.
Dilan said that until now, there are 40 UB alumni managements from Aceh to Papua, plus alumni forums based on interests, such as the Law, Medicine, Innovation, Culture, and Sports compartments.
The Alumni Association also provides support to young alumni starting from career insights, free certification through cooperation with consulting companies, cooperation with PT KAI to get discounts as UB alumni, and provide support to alumni who are entrepreneurs.
