Delivering Scientific Oration, the Minister of BUMN Explains Future Challenges

Welcoming the era of globalization, there will be three challenges that must be faced by the people of Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir in a Scientific Oration at Widyaloka Building, Universitas Brawijaya. The activity entitled “Scientific Oration: Globalization and Digitalization: SOE strategy in Post-Pandemic ” was held on Saturday (11/27/2021), attended by SOE Directors, Rector, Deputy Rectors, Deans and student representatives throughout Malang Raya.

In his presentation, Erick said that the three challenges were not meant to scare, but as a reality that must be faced.

“First, is a global market that will continue to be forced to open. Second, is a digital transformation that cannot be stopped. The third is the health resilience that we are currently experiencing,” he said.

SOEs, according to Erick, have a unique role in the economy because aside from corporations, SOEs are also required to serve the public.

Overcoming these three challenges, he hopes that all parties can work together and synergize. “I hope we all work together with one another to build the foundation or roadmap that we hope for,” he added.

Opening the event, UB Rector, Prof. Dr.Ir. Nuhfil Hanani AR, MS gave a positive appreciation. “I hope that UB can cooperate with the Ministry of SOEs,” said Nuhfil.

The Dean of FEB UB, Abdul Ghofar, SE., M.Sc., M.Acc through this activity hopes that Indonesia can take advantage of the domestic market well. “With a population of approximately 280 million people in all corners, it is actually a very extraordinary market, which we should be able to be independent beyond the capabilities of our own nation, but now it has become a marketing arena for foreign companies,” he explained.
