UB Doctoral Service Team Holds Socialization of the Establishment of a Dairy Cow Manure Bank in Ngantang: An Innovative Solution to Overcome Livestock Waste
The Doctoral Service Team of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) held a socialization of the establishment of a Dairy Cow Manure Bank at KUD Sumber Makmur, Ngantang, Thursday (08/08/2024). This event was realized as an effort to overcome the problem of dairy farm waste. This activity was attended by 39 heads of farmers from various villages in Ngantang District.
The concept of a Dairy Cow Manure Bank is an innovative solution in managing livestock waste, where later the cow manure will be processed into high-quality and economically valuable compost. So that it can reduce the negative impact of waste on the environment, and empower local farmers.
Dr. Ir. Marjuki, M.Sc as the head of the KKN-DM team expressed the importance of cooperation in overcoming the problem of livestock waste.
“Our task is to encourage and motivate the community to jointly solve the problem of dairy cow manure. In essence, let’s handle it together in various ways that are adjusted to the conditions of each farmer,” said the lecturer from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry in his speech.
This program was welcomed by farmers in Ngantang District. Mr. Sugiono as Chairman I of KUD Sumber Makmur Ngantang expressed his appreciation for this initiative.
“I strongly agree with this compost program since it can reduce livestock waste, especially in Ngantang area. I would like to thank Dr. Ir. Marjuki, M.Sc, and UB Doctoral Service Team who have provided knowledge to 39 livestock group leaders from 13 villages in Ngantang District,” he said.
The benefits of the establishment of this Dairy Cow Manure Bank are expected to be felt by all farmers in Ngantang and also provide an opportunity for participants to gain practical knowledge about the process of processing cow manure into compost.
Through this initiative, the 2024 KKN-DM Team is committed to continuing to assist farmers in implementing the Dairy Cow Manure Bank concept with the hope of creating a cleaner, more productive, and more sustainable livestock environment in the future.
