Another achievement from International Relations students at Brawijaya University (HI UB). This time, a student whose full name is Satria Wijaya showed his ability to write argumentative essays in the Surabaya Regional Essay Contest competition held by Djarum Plus Scholarship for the 2023/2024 period.
Through his writing, Satria presents a critical review of the placement of campaign billboards which were widely installed, especially in the first quarter of 2024. Satria views that the phenomenon of crowds of campaign billboards actually creates an urgency that concerns people’s livelihoods.
“I saw that the placement of billboards during the last election campaign months could produce visual pollution, and could even endanger other people, because their placement was messy,” he said, Tuesday (7/5/2024).
Satria’s criticism focuses on how the government as a policy maker should act to create and enforce regulations regarding the centralization of the installation of political campaign billboards so that they are more orderly.
“This also invites practical political participants in the General Election to campaign in a more modern way, one of which is via social media,” added one of the 19 recipients of the 2023/2024 Djarum Plus Scholarship from Brawijaya University.
Even though he had a cool initial idea, Satria did not fail to prepare his writing carefully by researching and collecting valid data and information to support his argument.
“I’m also doing more research, especially on things like the number of campaign tools for each election here, the number of political participants in the elections, how they manage campaign tool waste, and other data that might be needed,” explained Satria.
Uniquely, his experience in succeeding of becoming a Top 10 Finalist in this competition was also due to the big contribution of Djarum Foundation in organizing Leadership & Development training specifically for Djarum scholarship recipients throughout Indonesia.
Through these benefits, Satria also provides tips and suggestions for other FISIP students in achieving other achievements.
“A tip for friends is not to be afraid of failure, because even if you fail it means it is a learning process, and if we succeed we can measure our target abilities again for the next time. So, never be limited by worry, before we can know what the results will be,” he concluded. (Alifiah/FISIP PR/OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
