In realizing the Independent Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) in the field of academic, Universitas Brawijaya continues to aggressively promote international campus study programs, starting from postgraduate programs, double degrees, joint research, visiting professors and various other activities. These programs are the step for campus internationalization after the establishment of UB as a Legal Entity Higher Education (PTNBH). Dr. Ir. Bambang Susilo M.Sc, Agr. as the Vice Rector V for Research and Innovation with the ranks of the Directorate of Cooperation & Internationalization together with International Office, welcomed the initiation of the visit of Indonesian-French University and Education Attaché, Philomene Robin as a representative of the Institute Francais Indonesia (IFI) and Sandra Vivier, Director of IFI Surabaya, Monday (28 /3). Both of them came to attend UB’s invitation to introduce various kinds of information about campus life and the introduction of favorite studies in this European country.
Robin revealed that currently the enthusiasm of Indonesian students studying abroad, especially in France, is quite large. A total of 445 Indonesian students take study programs such as Double Degree, Doctoral Program (PhD), Exchange and International Student in 2021 (an increase after 2020 which amounted to 390 students). The fields of study that become references are also very diverse, including: luxury, fashion, gastronomy by 8 percent, public administration, political science and international relations 6.8 percent, business & management, economics, finances 30.1 percent, art and architecture 3.3 percent, environment 2.5 percent, french literature 26.8 percent, multidisciplinary 0.3 percent, science 11.3 percent, human & social science, communication, law 6.5 percent and the rest are included in tourism & hospitality . Meanwhile, the distribution of students from their regions of origin also covers almost all regions in Indonesia, from Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, Nusa Tenggara to Papua.
Robin continued that the French Embassy has provided scholarships since last year, 77 scholarships in 2021-2022 and 104 scholarships in 2022-2023, with a series of four scholarship program applications: France Excellence Masters, Master scholarships, Kartini Sains scholarships and Thematic scholarships which are open until next 23 April. He also hopes that the presence of UB-France cooperation can increase interest in international studies through the academic mobility and exchange scheme, both through international relations and the application of foreign languages (French, Bahasa Indonesia and English). In addition to this scheme, there are also priority scientific targets to be achieved in cooperation in the field of business management and maritime affairs.
Besides that, UB also provides offers related to international class programs through visiting professors to fill 3 in 1 classes that have been run by the university. IFI’s interest in introducing the visiting professor program will create a considerable impact on campuses, the development of international classes through collaboration between overseas campuses provides benefits for the academic learning ecosystem. It is undeniable, if more and more lecturers from abroad come to give their contribution in UB, it will bring new cooperation programs in the future for the two campuses which are interconnected.
