Lecturer of the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB), Dr. Eng. Novanto Yudistira, S.Kom., M.Sc., who also serves as Head of FILKOM UB Intelligent System Laboratory, has successfully obtained a letter of registration of creation or Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) from the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, for the type of his creation, on a computer program with the title of creation, Modern Generative Batik Application, with the number, EC002024265291, application date, December 30, 2024.
Yudis together with two Filkom lecturers, Dr. Candra Dewi, S.Kom., M. Sc., and Dr. Eng. Irawati Nurmala Sari, S. Kom and two FCS lecturers, Dyaningrum Pradhikta, S. Sn., M. Ds., and Fatmawati, S. Sn., M. Ds. assisted by FILKOM student, Rahmatulloh Daffa Izzuddin Wahid have developed this application since 2023. Izzuddin, who is also a student under Yudis’ thesis guidance, raised this Generative AI batik in his thesis and has been published in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), on December 27, 2024, with the title Prompt Conditioned Batik Pattern Generation Using LoRA Weighted Diffusion Model With Classifier-Free Guidance. Yudis realizes that the advancement of artificial intelligence technology has entered an extraordinary level. Many things have been able to be done by AI, so that work becomes easier and more efficient. One real example is the use of Prompt Text AI in Generative Batik. With the ability to analyze data quickly and provide appropriate recommendations, AI helps designing batik that is more effective and responsive to customer needs. In the batik industry, AI can generate visual designs with just a few simple commands, saving time and effort.
“This application uses a dataset of 20,000 batik motif images equipped with automatic descriptions, which are then trained with modern techniques such as Long Range (LoRa) to improve accuracy and detail. The batik pattern results produced by this application have been tested and appreciated by experts in the field of batik, and can be applied to hand-drawn batik cloth, proving that the resulting designs are not only aesthetic but also applicable in traditional batik art,” explained Yudis.
This IPR achievement also consider special since it was obtained ahead of the celebration of UB’s 62nd Anniversary on Sunday (5/1/2025) and also coincided with the inauguration of the AI Center and UB Data Center. The Modern Generative Batik Application Booth that has been prepared with several other booths for the inauguration of the AI Center and Data Center, was honored to be visited by the Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Meutya Viada Hafid. On that occasion, Yudis accompanied by Izzuddin and Candra provided an explanation regarding the application that obtained IPR to the Komdigi minister. Yudis explained that this application allows the creation of batik motifs automatically through Latent Diffusion Model technology. By simply entering a text prompt, users can produce unique batik patterns according to their wishes. (rr/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
