Raising Tolerance Value, UB Student Wins 2nd Place at National Sketch Competition

Raising Tolerance of Pura Luhur Dwijawarsa, I Putu Paramartha Windhu Wins 2nd Place in Architectural Sketch Competition of Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta

A student of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB) I Putu Paramartha Windhu (2024) won second place in the Architectural Sketch Competition held by the Association of Architecture Students of Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta. The competition was held on Saturday (02/22/2025), by drawing an architectural object live – on site according to the participant’s choice. The participants of the competition reached more than 90 people from various circles.

In the competition with the theme “Human Connection Through Purposeful Spaces”, Windhu chose Pura Luhur Dwijawarsa, Malang City as the object of his sketch. The choice of location was not without reason. According to him, Pura Luhur Dwijawarsa is a symbol of tolerance that is still highly respected in Malang City. He considered that Pura Luhur Dwijawarsa is not just a place of worship for Hindus in Malang City, but is like a “treasure” which the existence must be maintained.

“The existence of Pura Luhur Dwijawarsa as a place of worship has a big influence on the Hindu community in Malang City. The temple is an oasis for us, Hindus to interact and chat during religious days,” he said.

The competition assessment was carried out based on several main qualifications, namely completeness of format, suitability of theme, and description of the work. In addition, the technical aspects of the sketch were also the focus of the assessment, including image presentation, balance and proportion, and aesthetics.

The sketch work was relatively fast. Windhu only needed one day to complete his sketch. He added that there was a warm moment where on the same day, Pura Luhur Dwijawarsa was holding a celebration of the Holy Day of Tumpek Landep. The celebration is commemorated by Balinese Hindus to express gratitude to Ida Bhatara Sang Hyang Pasupati for giving the power of thought, as well as the purification of sacred heirlooms.

“This is the first time I have participated in an architectural sketch competition while being a UB student, I feel challenged to apply the material that I have learned during my semester of study. I hope to continue to participate in other competitions,” he concluded. [FIM/MIT/UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
