Raising Social Media Phenomenon, FISIP Student Wins the National Writing Competition

FISIP Communications Student, Jesica Maranatha Virgin has made another achievement. This time, Jessica won the 2nd place in the 2023 National Level Writing Opinion, Poetry and Short Story Competition organized by the State University of Malang for an opinion writing competition.

Uniquely, the student class of 2020 admitted that the ideas she brought in her writing came from what has been going viral on Tiktok social media lately, through the song Not That Easy by singer Anggi Marito.

“My writing intro uses the lyrics of the song Not That Easy, right, after that it just explains the advantages and disadvantages of social media, then there are case studies, and there are also tips and tricks on how to do it so that we as students can continue to excel in the social media era. As today,” explained Jessica, Monday (14/8/2023).

Competing at the national level, Jesica also said that in this competition she was up against quite a number of competitors from various universities. Besides Malang State University, his opponents also came from Gadjah Mada University, Airlangga University, Malang Muhammadiyah University, and other campuses.

“The first place winner is from the University of Education of Ganesha Bali, then the second place is me, only the third and fourth place winners are from Malang State University,” he said.

Even so, Jesica admitted that this competition was a sign for her to dare to leave her comfort zone. In the process, he also felt a lack of confidence and his writing suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, although in the end the writing was also finished according to the stipulated time.

“So far, I have never participated in a writing competition or competition outside of being an ambassador/pageant. I think this is also an experience that is not easy, because I am actually the type of person who prefers to talk rather than write,” added Jesica.

Jesica also gave some tips for other students who also want to make achievements. First by establishing a priority scale, using a schedule control application, daring to get out of your comfort zone, until the most important thing is knowing your own capacity and prioritizing enough rest.
