AiCCESS Delivers Students of Communication Science to Win Silver Medal

International achievements have been achieved again by Brawijaya University students. This time, UB team has succeeded in winning the Silver Prize at Thailand Inventors Day 2024 which was held in the context of Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEx), last Friday-Tuesday (2-6/2/2024) in Thailand.

In this competition, UB delegation won the Silver Prize with its innovative articulation of language into text entitled “Utilizing Artificial Intelligence in the AiCCESS Application: A Novel Approach to Enhancing Accessibility and Quality of Education for the Deaf.” This team consists of Dwi Jaya Saputra, Arya Dary Irfansyah, Akhmad Ibra Syahrial Maula, and Jevera Arkananta from the Department of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences,

According to Dije, Dwi’s nickname, AiCCESS is an effort to improve the accessibility and quality of education for deaf people. “The aim is to support inclusive campus programs. In addition, this application is for the use of AI and shows that AI is not a human “killing machine”, which if used according to its function can be a tool that can provide decent education,” he explained.

This application, he added, received appreciation from exhibition visitors in Thailand. “We received visits from many audiences, judges and visitors from various countries. Many are curious about the application design and are really waiting for the application to be released soon. There are also those who comment on the UI/UX design of the application, they say that the application design is user friendly for its users. Even, visitors from students from one of the universities in Thailand, they were amazed by the application design and wanted to find out who designed the application because the appearance is attractive and eye-catching,” he explained.

“AiCCESS can also strengthen UB’s commitment to support the 4th and 10th SDGs regarding education and inclusiveness. The hope is that this application can create quality education for all students in Indonesia, including groups that are often ignored. Hopefully we can continue to contribute to improving inclusive education in Indonesia through technological innovation that has an impact on society,” concluded the 2020 batch student.

Thailand Inventors Day is an annual celebration held by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). This event involves exhibitions of innovations and discoveries from local and international inventors and researchers. The international exhibition, known as IPITEx, takes place from 2 to 6 February 2024 at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (BITEC), featuring more than 600 works from 25 countries.
