Agroforestry for the Future of Indonesian Agriculture

Department of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Brawijaya in collaboration with the Indonesia Network for Agroforestry Education (INAFE) and the International Center for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) South-East Asia held a National Seminar entitled “Agroforestry for the Future of Indonesia Agriculture”, Wednesday (14/ 12/2022).

One of the presenters, namely Dr. Ir. Bambang Supriyanto, M.Sc who is the Director General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships – KLHK RI, delivered material on the government’s role in mainstreaming agroforestry. In social forestry, agroforestry plays a role in solving degraded land problems at the community to national level.

“From an economic perspective, agroforestry has the potential to increase farmers’ income through high productivity, which is supported by good production facilities such as access to fertilizers, technical assistance, and market access,” said Bambang.

This activity is also designed as a forum for exchanging information and innovations about agroforestry as a future agricultural system in Indonesia in order to increase cooperation between participants who have an interest in agroforestry, as well as strengthen the role of universities in developing agroforestry systems in Indonesia.

At the end of this activity, a national INAFE meeting was held which discussed organizational structure, membership and INAFE work programs in the fields of education, research, cooperation and organization.

The activity which took place at UB guest house was opened by the Dean of FP-UB Dr. Ir. Damanhuri, M.S. as well as the Chair of INAFE, Dr. Budiadi, S.Hut., M.Agr.Sc as a means of soft-launching the publication of a book with the theme “Agroforestry typical of the Archipelago” written by INAFE board members consisting of Gajah Mada University, IPB University, Brawijaya University, Lampung University, Mulawarman University , and Lambung Mangkurat University (zma/Humas UB/ Trans.
