As many as 138 golfers and sports fans filled the arena for the 13th ABG Charity Golf Tournament, which was initiated by Alumni of Universitas Brawijaya Golf (ABG), Saturday (17/12/2022) at Pondok Indah Golf Jakarta.
The golf tournament that competes for the Rector’s Cup is in the context of the 60th Anniversary or Lustrum XII Universitas Brawijaya (UB).
Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Internationalization Universitas Brawijaya, Prof. Moch. Sasmito Djati said, this activity was also a media for social awareness for alumni. This includes victims of natural disasters, who are also still feeling the effects of the economic downturn due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The alumni’s concern is a form of positive contribution to Universitas Brawijaya and society in general,” said Sasmito.
The same thing was emphasized by one of the ABG coaches who is also the Daily Chairperson of IKA UB, Sis Apik Wijayanto. This golf tournament, said Sis Apik, was not held just once.
“This is an annual event which is a form of alumni’s concern for the environment, our earth, and education, according to the theme, Caring for the Earth and the Environment,” he said.
ABG itself is a club that accommodates golfers, especially UB Alumni.
The annual tournament is not only attended by the big family of UB campus. Since its inception, this golf tournament has been open to the public, and golfers from outside the alumni circle have often joined it.
In fact, ABG Chairman Didik Farkhan hopes that this golf tournament can contribute to the development of the Indonesian golf world. Including contributing to the improvement of national golf achievements.
“For internal UB itself, every ABG tournament we always invite student golfers, and send them on the golf tournament calendar between universities or between alumni,” said Didik.
The Chairperson of the 13th ABG Charity Golf Tournament Committee, Abiwodo explained, the funds obtained were the result of registration of participants, donations from alumni families, and of course event supporters alias sponsorship.
“We also distributed the assistance directly to the victims affected by the disaster,” Abiwodo explained.
He revealed that the committee appreciates the enthusiasm of the tournament participants, UB alumni, and all parties involved in the 13th ABG Charity Golf Tournament.
“Thank you for entrusting this responsibility to us,” concluded Abiwodo. (*/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
