The Brawijaya Communication International Conference (BCIC) was successfully held from 26-27 October 2022. A total of 32 papers and 5 posters were presented at this online international conference.
Head of the Department of Communication Sciences FISIP UB, Prof. Rachmat Kriyantono Ph.D said the big theme of this conference was The Transformation of Digital Technology and Its Impact on Human Communication.
“That the development of communication technology towards digital has an influence on human communication behavior,” he told Public Relations FISIP, Wednesday (26/10/2022).
The man who is familiarly called RK said that this theme was chosen because humans are currently living in an era of rapid technological development.
“All aspects of life cannot be separated by technological developments. We seem to live as a human mechanism, even human nature or in Arabic called insaniah is often defeated by the influence of technology, “he said.
RK gives example that there are currently many viral hoaxes or false information, slander, criticizing each other because of communication behavior that occurs a lot in digital media today.
“Communication as a Glue of Society is threatened, on the contrary, communication is directed as a means of breaking unity (ukhuwah). Communication as a binder of the nation’s culture is also threatened to become communication as a spreader of foreign cultures and ideologies, “said the man who just got the title of Professor.
Therefore, RK considered this conference to remind and build awareness of the two sides of technology.
“On the one hand, it functions to simplify human life, but on the other hand, if we are not careful, we can reduce our humanistic qualities,” he said.
At this 2nd BCIC, several keynote speakers included Dr. Chris Galloway, Dr. Deborah Wise, Prof. Adrian Athique and Prof. Ricky G Abalena III. In addition to keynote speakers, at this international conference, several pleanery speakers were also prepared, namely Prof. Rachmat Kriyantono, Maulina Pia Wulandari Ph.D, Muhammad Gafar Yoedtadi, Reza Safitri Ph.D, Dr Antoni, Anang Sujoko D.Comm, Dr Bambang Dwi Prasetyo, Desi Dwi Prianti Ph.D and Fitri H Oktaviani Ph.D. (Humas FISIP/Humas UB/ Trans.
