
A total of 11 students from the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) have successfully passed the Universitas Brawijaya Student Academic Research Scheme (UB STARS) program. Fitri Hariana Oktaviani SS, SE, MCommun, PhD., as the UB STARS coordinator, said that this activity is opened to undergraduate, master and doctoral study programs (prodi). The selection process for regular batch 2 has been carried out in December 2024 and January 2025, for regular batch 2A and regular 2B have also been announced and a total of 138 participants passed, with details of 22 participants from batch 2A and 116 from batch 2B who successfully passed the selection. The departure will be carried out in the odd semester of 2024/2025.
“Initially, the idea of UB STARS came from the Chancellor of UB, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc. and collaborated with GAE UB led by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso M. P. There are several goals that we want to achieve from the implementation of this program, first, the occurrence of research collaboration between UB academics and foreign partner universities/research institutes. Second, the publication of student research results supervised by lecturer B and partner lecturers in reputable journals (Scopus or World Of Science). And, third, there is an increase in the academic competence of UB students in the scope of national and international research,” explained Fitri.
Fitri, who is also a lecturer in Communication Science and a researcher at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), explained several mandatory requirements that students must fulfill for this program, such as a recommendation letter from the head of the study program, a letter of permission from parents and communication between the supervisor and researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) or partner lecturers at foreign universities. Fitri also added that UB STARS provides funding assistance to students, for the national region of a maximum of IDR 10,000,000. For Southeast Asia, IDR 12,500,000., for Asia, IDR 12,500,000., and Europe, Australia, America, IDR 20,000,000.
Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FILKOM UB, Dr. Eng. Ir. Herman Tolle, S.T., M.T., congratulated FILKOM students on this proud achievement. Dr. Herman, who is also the supervisor of Siti Zakiah and Aurellia Ristivani Aisha Fitri, hopes that the 11 students who passed UB STARS can give their best during the research period.
