Brawijaya University Targets Next Year to Rise in Rank

University rankings released by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Webometrics, as well as QS World is a branding mean for the institution.

Brawijaya University Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani, MS in a Principal Work Meeting on Thursday (12/Sep/2018) believes that Brawijaya University rankings can still be improved. Based on Webometrics version, Brawijaya University is ranked 28th, QS World version is in position 800+ and according to Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education is in position 12.

In order to raise its rankings, there are several programs which will be implemented next year, such as professor's and doctor's roles in international events and increasing numbers of foreign students and lecturers.

Internationalization is one of challenges that should be confronted by Brawijaya University. This is in accordance with mandate from Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education that Brawijaya University should be a world class university.

In addition to internationalization, currently Brawijaya University is preparing to be a PTN BH (State University with Legal Entity). Nuhfil mentioned that from the rankings classified by the Ministry, Brawijaya University is the only college with cluster A which is still in BLU (Public Service Agency) status.

"A status as State University with legal entity actually gives many profits such as ease access in research grant which is only provided for PTN BH status," said Nuhfil.

Meanwhile Expert staff of Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Khusnul Ashar mentioned that numbers of this research funding becomes indicator for rankings. [siti-rahma/Humas UB/trans. Denok]
