Once again a non-Governmental funds bridge will be built by Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) together with Jawapos Radar Malang. After building KH A. Fattah Betek Bridge, KH Yusuf Tasikmadu Bridge, and Tajinan Klayatan Bridge, the fourth project is located in Kelurahan Merjosari, Lowokwaru, Malang.

The final visit to the bridge location has been done by UB Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Bisri MS, Director of Jawa Pos Radar Malang Kurniawan Muhammad, member of Malang City Council Imam Ghazali, and Merjosari Urban Village representatives on Tuesday (2/Jan/2018). As directed by UB's rector, the ground-breaking ceremony was held today, Friday, January 5, 2018.

Currently, this rickety bamboo bridge can only be passed by pedestrians. The bridge will be built with concrete and steel material with a length of 20 meters and width of 3 meters and is expected to be an alternative access from Merjosari to Batu Town.

Nearby there is a concrete bridge, when there's no rain, cars can pass. However, when the heavy rain comes, the river flow up and buried this concrete bridge completely. What makes it dangerous is that this road is used as the passing road by the resident, across the river there is also a boarding school that is packed with activity. Some time ago a 4th grader became a victim on his way home from school. So the bridge is built with a height of 5.62 meters from the surface of the river and the depth of the foundation of 2.5 meters.

"The bridge construction process is expected to be completed within 3-4 months, hopefully, the construction of this fourth bridge can provide economic and social benefits for local residents," hope the Rector who is also Professor of Water Engineering FT-UB.

On this afternoon occasion the Director of Jawapos Radar Malang, who often called Mas Kum also appreciated this collaboration. "Four bridges in the span of 4 years. The synergy between campus, media, and local government to build public facilities, especially bridges is very rarely found. This bridge was built to facilitate others. Hopefully this way we will also be facilitated by Allah SWT," he said.

Dean of FT-UB, Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono MT as the chief executive of the bridge construction reported that the current balance of this project is still available in the 200 million out of 650 million needs. For that he along with Radar Malang Team continue to invite the poor and surrounding communities to participate. In addition, he and LPPM UB will also submit a proposal to Rector UB to apply for funding allocation from the Doctor Mengabdi Program. (mic/emis)
