MoU signing of multipurpose UB Forest
At the end of the year, precisely December 2017, Prof. Eko Ganis Sukoharsono (Director of UB Forest) in collaboration with Balai Pengelolaan Daerah Aliran Sungai Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (Agency for Watershed Management at Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia) commemorated Hari Menanam Pohon Indonesia (HMPI/Indonesia Day Tree Planting) and Month of National Planting Trees (Bulan Menanam Pohon Nasional/BMN) 2017 at UB Forest. The event aims to improve concern for planting trees in a multipurpose forest model, increasing the socio-economic value of the forest and improving forest sustainability. The event was themed "Creative and Innovative UB Forest to Improve Multipurpose Forest Productivity for Communities Welfare".

HMPI and BMN conducted on 2 December 2017 took place in Sumberwangi Village, UB Forest area. In the occasion, conducted tree planting on 10 hectares of land with fruits as the main focus of planting. The event also attended by Governor of East Java, Director General of Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Brawijaya University Rector, State Islamic University Rector, State University of Malang Rector, Head of the Forestry Service of the Provincial Government, Head of BPDAS, Student Delegates from State Islamic University of Malang (100), student delegates of Brawijaya University (150) and Head of Provincial Government Service.

In the opening, Prof. Eko Ganis explained that UB Forest is managed by implementation of 5P which is abbreviated from People, Planet, Profit, Pheno technology and Prophet. "The 5P balancing is the key in the forest management," he said.

Meanwhile, Brawijaya University Rector Prof. Mohammad Bisri in his remarks advised that UB Forest to become important part in realizing Brawijaya University vision and mission with a land expansion of 544 hectares (UB Forest) as part of entrepreneurship university. So then do not lose with abroad universities which have areas above 1,000 hectares. The event was expected to be able to motivate all related parties to use the forest that has been owned as much as possible for the university and to promote the economy of UB Forest's surrounding communities.

Director General of PDASHL, Dr. Hilman Nugroho also reminded us to have active roles in environmental sustainability with planting 25 trees during life. It aims to preserve nature around  UB Forest which will be used to promote the welfare of surrounding communities. BMN and HMPI 2017 event was ended with inscription signing of multipurpose UB Forest and MoU signing by Brawijaya University Rector, Director General of PDAS LH and East Java Governor which represented by Head of Environmental Agency of East Java Provincial Government.
