UKM Renang UB Borong 15 Emas Di Kompetisi Nasional

Swimming Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Brawijaya won 15 gold medals in the 4th Swimming Competition between Students in Indonesia held in Universitas Hasanudin, (27-28/9).

15 gold medals won by UB students consists of relay number with four gold, by male group Ario Sakti Laurung (FISIP), Javier Molya (FISIP), Daniel (FEB), and Catra Contrara (FISIP). Six gold from relay number was also won by female group Nigita Edmira (FISIP), Dara Zamora (FISIP), Adinda Sekar Arum Perwitasari (FT), and Fibriani Ratna (FISIP).

Fibriani Ratna Marita, who won the title of best swimmer, also contributed six gold for 200 meter changing style and 50 breast style.

While the rest are three gold and two gold, by Daniel and Catra Contrara for 50 and 100 meter backstyle.

Daniel said that 15 gold won have put UB as the overall winner. While the second winner is Universitas Negeri Makasar (UNM) who won six gold medals, and the third winner is Universitas Hasanudin (Unhas).

"Our toughest rival is Universitas Hasanudin because one athlete can be skilled in many aquatic branches such as swimming polo, and diving. Even so, we manage to win over UNM in the second position," Daniel said.

For winning the title, Daniel, Fibriani, and Catra on November will compete in National Student Sport Week (POMNAS) XIII/2013, which will be held in Yogyakarta.

Catra said that the target set for Pomnas is one gold for 100 meter backstroke. Similar to Catra, Daniel and Fibriani also target one gold in the next Pomnas. Daniel targets gold medal for 50 and 100 meter freestyle. While Fibriani targets one gold for three numbers, 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 change stroke.

Meanwhile, Vice Rector III, Ir. H. R. B. Ainnurrasyid, MS said that he is proud of the achievement of the eight students, although they only have limited facilities.
