UB Lecturers Paper Presented in Hannover

Paper written by lecturers of Agriculture Engineering Universitas Brawijaya, Wahyunanto Agung Nugroho, M.Eng written with Yusuf Wibisono, M.Sc (UB) and Roni Nugraha, MSc (lecturer of IPB) is presented in the international conference of Sharia Economics Conference 2013 in Hannover, Jerman, Saturday (9/2).

The paper is entitled "Autonomous Framework on Governing Water for Sustainable Food and Energy" discussing the phenomena of threat on clean water, that is related to scarcity, cleanliness from bacterial such as cholera, safe from dangerous contaminants such as arsenic and social instability that arise from the mistake in water management. Whereas, water as the most important component in human life and the lifeblood of humanity must be maintained on its quality and access.

Water also contribute importantly to agriculture, in which about 70% of the request of clean water is used for management of agriculture. Water is also an important component in providing energy, especially electricity, and on the other hand, processing water into clean water also needs large amount of energy. The concept of water-energy-food nexus become a crucial subject of presentation, and the paper recommend that placing water as a public rights managed by the state is a solution that can solve the threat on availability of clean water.

The international conference of SEC2013 is held by Indonesian Ambassador for Germany Federation Republic in cooperation with Indonesian Muslim Intellectual Association (PRIMA), attended by hundreds of participants from various countries. Dozens of papers are presented by researchers, practitioners, and students from England, Germany,  Italy, Netherland, Georgia, Malaysia and Indonesia, in the conference location in Leibniz Universitat Hannover, Jerman.
