Lecturer of Agriculture Engineering (Study Program of Bioprocess Engineering) Faculty of Agricultural Technology Universitas Brawijaya Yusuf Wibisono MSc perform a presentation in the International Conference of 2012 last month. The presentation is conducted as a part of his scientific visit to England for nine days, Wednesday-Thursday (19-27/9).

He present his paper on the effect of geometry from spacer in he use of air bubble in the process of nano-filtration and reverse osmosis. Related to the use of air bubble in the membrane process, in Universitas Oxford he met Prof. Z.F. Chui, who is an expert the field. The field is also researched by Yusuf while studying on doctoral program in Netherland.

Yusuf said that on the conference there were 228 oral presentations and 550 poster presentations. Among them are micro-filtration membrane, ultra-filtration, nano-filtration, reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, contactor membrane, manufacturing and modification of membrane, anorganic membrane, carbon membrane and mixed matrix, to the application of membrane technology for biorefinery, separation of gas and steam, production of drinking water, biomedic application (prosthetic kidney, biosensor, drug delivery, dialysis etc.) and fuel cell/battery.

While in England, he also visited desalination installation operated by Thames Water in London. The installation used ultrafiltration (UF) membrane technology and reverse osmosis (RO), and used to process the water in the surface of Thames River in London. The Beckton Desalination Installation is built by London city government to provide about seven percent of the drinking water need of London metropolitan city, and also used as a reserve for water security for London. On the next day, Yusuf Wibisono, MSc also visited Chemical Engineering Department in University of Oxford and University of Bath, which have superior research in the field of membrane technology.
