Workshop of PKN and Thesis Proposal Writing
Proposal of Fieldwork Practice (PKN) and Undergraduate Thesis are often become a daunting task for students on final semesters. Many students complaint on the difficulty of making PKN proposal, especially to be accepted by the intended institution. That is why, Laboratory of Government Science Held an event entitled "Workshop of PKN and Undergraduate Thesis Proposal Writing" for all students of Government Science 2010. The event is held in Hall of FISIP building, seventh floor, on Saturday (15/12). The event is meant as a training in writing and creating proposal of PKN or undergraduate thesis for students on fifth semester.
The event, started on eight o clock in the morning, is opened by Fathur Rahman, S.IP., M.A. as the Head of Government Science Study Program Laboratory. In the event, the moderator is Dedi Zulkarnain Pratama and speakers are from the lecturers of Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Science Universitas Brawijaya, Muhtar Haboddin S.IP., M.A from Study Program of Government Science, International Relation Study Program Yusli Effendi, S.IP., M.A. and lastly Rachmat Kriyantono, Ph.D. as the lecturer of Post Graduate FISIP UB.
The event is divided into three sessions of material presentation, the first session is by Rachmat Kriyantono,Ph.D. explaining the environmental context of FISIP. He explained that PKN concept held by FISIP is a combination of KKN (Fieldwork) and PKL (Fieldwork Practice).
"KKN as we know it is like internship, it can be held in office, company, or institution. And PKL is a form of student service to community life based on the theories taught to the students." As explained by graduate of Edith Cowan University Australia.
The second session is continued by Muhtar Haboddin,S.IP.,M.A. with material of ethics of writing. The man explains the importance of ethics for writer, especially in the context of making undergraduate thesis a requirement of graduation.
"We may cite a little or a lot, as long as we put on the names and sources of the citation. If we don't put on names and sources, it can be labelled as plagiarism" as explained by the man from Jeneponto.
The technical aspect of writing citation source is divided into two, first, body and footnote, "For students, as a beginner writers, using footnote is more recommended in making paper. It is useful to ease lecturer in finding citation source", as explained by lecturer of UGM Political Master Program.
On the last session of the workshop, there is Yusli Effendi with material of tips and tricks of "Writing Undergraduate Thesis Proposal and Undergraduate Thesis". The material is an important material because many students are afraid of the process of writing thesis that takes energy, thinking, and time. Some methods that can be implemented by students are looking at the problems raised in the thesis from the broad aspect to the narrow aspect.
"Such as through the stage of prespective, theories, concept, variables, indicator, and parameter." As explained by Lecturer of International Relation. The event is then ended with a practice to write thesis proposal based on the method taught to the participants.
Benefit of the Workshop of PKN and Thesis proposal writing are to motivate students of Government Science 2010 as an effort to prepare forPKN and to change the perception of thesis proposal and thesis to become a thing that students should not be afraid of. Tips and tricks taught are also expected to be a principle for students, as the first generation they can also make good quality thesis that is as good as other departments who has graduated many students.
